Review of the smartphone Honor View Pro 30: prophetic polyfilaman
About Honor and View 30 View 30 Pro my colleague Victor zaykovskiy already wrote of the event on their announcement in China — the home market, they are called Honor V30/V30 Pro and at the time of writing the material we didn’t even know, will they do outside China. The situation with the blocked Google’s Mobile Services as of October 2019 seemed so much more critical than now. But Huawei, as it turned out, really holds good kick and developing your store and related applications sufficient rate to produce to the markets outside of China Android smartphones, but without Google with some hope of success. So Honor View 30 Pro still left in Russia.
Left alone, without his brother V30 sold in China. It’s rarely a logical decision, given the minimal differences that can be detected only during reconciliation characteristics under a magnifying glass (main among them — slightly reduced CPU frequency and slightly different rear cameras included in the triple module). So, speaking about View 30 Pro, need to keep in mind that he is one, and “non-Pro” does not exist. Still, the positioning of the smartphone raises many questions — especially in light of the advent of the Honor 30/30 Pro. But at the time of this writing this is one of the most affordable smartphones with flagship specifications and 5G-modem — is another question, how long its life cycle and how it combines on the market not only with the upcoming flagship Honor, but with Huawei P40/P40 Pro. However, it is the eternal questions that arise in relation to the activities of two heads of one Hydra Chinese corporations every year. Here we will talk only about the advantages and disadvantages of a specific smart phone, without the emphasis on the narrowness of the niche that it occupies.

Design, ergonomics and software
Outwardly Honor View 30 Pro presented recall, back in October of last year, predicted all the key trends 2020. Here inscribed in the surface of the screen frontalka — in this case double, in the manner of Samsung Galaxy S10+; and large unit camera — black rectangle, which includes the optics, and sensors, and flash; Oh and a matte finish on the back glass. Right now Honor View 30 Pro is one of many, but it’s actually prophetic in design terms camera, and should give its creators credit as they were able to anticipate key trends of our time.
He has, however, the original solution: a fingerprint scanner hidden under the surface of the screen, as is now customary, and is located on the right side — in the button of inclusion. It is slightly recessed into the body, to use it conveniently and even pleasantly, but the surface area of the scanner is small, so that some failures are inevitable fingerprint recognition. This is true not of one View 30 Pro and all smartphones with the side scanner, this solution recently got a second wind, and apparatus with him, more after a break.
Front panel View 30 Honor Pro devoid of the curved faces is, perhaps, the key external feature that separates this smartphone from flagship devices, including authorship Huawei/Honor. In the end it slightly less comfortable to hold in hand — the panel is very large, broad, palm may even would get long enough to bother with the gadget. The scope here is not so tiny (the screen is to 84.9 % of the area of the front surface that is far from record levels), the display is fairly narrow, but still 6.57 inches is a lot. The smartphone is large and somewhat cumbersome — this one may be familiar, but fact is fact.
The rear panel is just provided with curved edges that slightly brightens impression. But the main plus Honor View 30 Pro compared to the predecessor (View 20) – matte, but not mirror glass, making the smartphone not slip in your hand or on any surface. Yes, it is still for reliability I want to pack a set (or purchased separately designer) case, but it is not so critical. Certification according to any standard of protection of the housing against dust or moisture is not provided.
Color variations Honor View 30 Pro two blue (“blue ocean”), as in our case, and black.
With functional elements View 30 Pro is the case in the usual way, except for the very keys of the scanner. Mini-Jack no, long volume rocker is on the right side, USB Type-C is on the bottom. Anyone who has dealt in recent years with Android smartphones, will be in his element.
About the identity system user I started to write higher — capacitive sensor in the side button is responsible for fingerprint recognition. But there’s also a facial recognition system — using the front camera, without any additional sensors.

About the situation with Google Mobile Services we have already written so much that every time I can’t bring myself to do it. But it is necessary. Honor View 30 Pro comes with Android operating system 10, but “crippled”, without Google’s services (including, without Google Play and without the ability to have software Google account). Today it is not a sentence to a smartphone: the company store AppGallery can find a lot of familiar applications from the Russian developers (and there is a complete ecosystem of “Yandex” and “Mail”), and from the West — for example, recently in AppGallery start Telegram. Another thing is that many — but not all- for example, WhatsApp or Facebook with Instagram is not there. To install the missing, you need to use third-party services like Pure or APK by AppGo. You can also install apk files just from the Internet. Thus it is possible to use almost any application, including a considerable part of the “Google” (Chrome, Maps). But Youtube, GMail and Google Pay do not earn, they’ll have to look for an alternative. Also not work of the games — those who come to Google Play for additional materials or to sync with a Google account. Most painfully, until recently, was the inability to pay for smartphones without GMS in contactless terminals, but since the beginning of April, Russia launched a service “Wallet Pay”, which completely fills this lacuna.
As the shell used Magic 3.1 UI version EMUI for smartphones, sold under the brand Honor. From the “original” it has a slightly different set of preset programs but slightly different visual style. But overall experience with her is identical to working with EMUI 10.
Display and sound
One of the boundaries separating Honor and Huawei, were and are matrix displays. More than a simple status Honor always stressed using the LCD screens even in local leaders — with the exception of “homemade” Magic series (we wrote about Honor Magic2). Honor View 30 Pro is no exception. Despite a full “opakovane” with respect to other characteristics, then set the IPS screen that a smartphone with a price of 35-40 thousand rubles today a rarity. The exception to the rule, if it’s not Google Pixel 3a or iPhone SE.
If more, then this is the display with a diagonal of 6.57 inches, a format 20:9 and a resolution of 2400 × 1080 pixels. Density — 400 ppi. From the status screen emphasizes the lack of operation with increased frequency — this option in the menu just yet, the refresh rate will always be 60 Hz. By itself, the quality panel, with good viewing angles and excellent oleophobic coating.
Measured maximum level of brightness without increasing when auto-tuning is 488 CD/m2 — a good result even for the LCD screen. But the contrast is rather disappointing — 1068:1. Deep black to View 30 Pro, perhaps not wait.
The settings screen is well known to the devices on EMUI 10, with one exception — there is no mode is provided to display the time and notification icons on the lock screen (Always-On Display). Smartphone with LCD screen this option is really useless, unnecessary power consumption blocked her convenience. Otherwise, everything is familiar: you can choose dark or light theme shell (there is simply a visual preference, the gain in efficiency will not), size of fonts, the resolution (flexible, Full HD or HD), to hide dark shading or write double eye frontally in the area of the status bar to activate the e-books mode — in this case, the screen goes to black and white and as “warming”. Color can be adjusted by selecting from two preset settings (“bright” and “normal”) with an acceptable color temperature to your taste. I measured the color with “bright” and “normal” presets in the default color temperature.
In bright mode the color gamut corresponds to the standard DCI-P3, and even slightly exceeds it — albeit with some offset. Adequate gamma — 2,18 with nearly normal curves. The color temperature is markedly improved — the curve is very sharp at 8000 K. the Average deviation of DeltaE for the extended Color Checker palette (shades of gray + a wide set of colors) at 4.88 at a rate of 3.00. In bright mode rendering Honor View 30 Pro shows bright, rich, but cold and therefore not the most accurate picture.
Standard situation in smartphones Honor/Huawei: for fans to see the picture the way it is intended by the authors, there is the usual mode of reproduction. Count on advanced color gamut and higher brightness/saturation is not necessary, but all very honest. Color gamut corresponds exactly to the sRGB standard, the average gamma a bit lower than in the bright mode (2,12), as well as color temperature — here it is almost a reference (curve is kept at 6 To 600). The average deviation of DeltaE scale Color Checker fits in a normal — 2,50.
Sound characteristics Honor View 30 Pro stands out: mini-Jack no, tract ordinary, external speaker is mono. But everything you need on site — wireless no problem (profiles aptX, aptX HD, LDAC supported), the call you hear.
Hardware and performance
Honor View 30 Pro – one of the first 5G smartphone brand and one of the most inexpensive 5G smartphones on the market today. This, however, is “empty” for us titles — in Russia before the mass launch of 5G networks is still far away, especially since we most likely will use a mm range, which modem Honor View 30 Pro in any case is not supported.
Hardware platform View Pro 30 familiar to us already in late released Huawei Pro P40/P40 is a HiSilicon Kirin 990 5G. Its main components: eight cores (two ARM Cortex-A76 with a clock frequency of 2.86 GHz + two ARM Cortex-A76 with a clock speed of 2.09 GHz + four Junior core ARM Cortex-A55 with a clock frequency of 1.86 GHz), graphics in the form of a 16-core ARM Mali-G76, a special module for operations related to machine learning (NPU). The platform is designed for 7-nanometer process using EUV-lithography.
Kirin 990 5G provides a sufficient level of performance to all running applications opened and worked quickly (of course, if they generally be acquired on the smartphone without GMS), any games start and run with good (but not limiting for some projects) frame rate. In direct confrontation with competitors on the basis of the Snapdragon 865 and 855 990 Kirin even 5G will slightly give in the first place for gaming performance, but overall, nothing critical — a good modern level that allows View 30 Pro feel confident in its price category.
With the throttle problem, there is absolutely no — in test, CPU Throttling is not fixed Test the lower frequencies at all. The average performance level was 195 GIPS.
Honor View 30 Pro comes in a single version via the built-in memory: 8 GB RAM LPDDR4X and 256 GB of flash UFS 3.0. Options increase the amount of drive there, but 256 GB should be enough for a long time.
Communications and wireless communications
If about 5G, we can speak purely theoretically, the 4G network for us is very relevant today. In this respect Honor View 30 Pro is the advanced apparatus is the maximum speed, which is capable built-in modem, the manufacturer does not specify, but no problems with the connection I experienced. Broad ranges are supported. There are two slots for cards nano-SIM, both of them are “friends” with LTE.
The wireless modules are relevant, but without the flagship of the Schick (which would support Wi-Fi-6): there is Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, 5.1 Bluetooth, NFC and navigation module, dual GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo and QZSS.
What gives Honor to View last year’s Pro 30 smartphone is set back cameras. Front like the latest flagship Huawei/Honor – double, with 32-megapixel and 8-megapixel modules, which provide two viewing angles. The back has absorbed the achievements of the Chinese company as of the fall of 2019.
The main camera has a 40-RYYB megapixel image sensor size 1/1,7″, friends and P30 Pro Huawei, and Huawei Mate 30 Pro. He augmented very fast optics (f/1,6) is equivalent to a focal length of 27 mm, equipped with optical stabilizer and hybrid autofocus that combines phase and contrast focusing of laser assistant. The second camera has a 12 megapixel sensor movie format 16:9 (pixel size is 1.4 microns), which is responsible for both shooting video and shooting photos with a wide angle. With it works lens aperture of f/2.2 and an equivalent focal length of 16 mm, have a hybrid autofocus. The third chamber is responsible for the zoom: it combines an 8-megapixel sensor (size — 1/4,0″) and a lens aperture of f/2.4 and an equivalent focal length 80 mm — with him again apply the hybrid AF and the optical stabilizer. View 30 Pro provides a triple hybrid and five times optical zoom.
Honor View 30 Pro shoots with a resolution of 10 megapixels as the main and zoom the camera in the first case, if you wish, you can activate the involvement of all sub and get a 40 megapixel image. Image format defaults to 4:3. Wide angle module generates an image with a resolution of 12 MP and 16:9 format, and choose the same format as the other two cameras, not available only the option of shooting “full screen” (20:9) with 10 megapixels and a square (1:1) with family. Through this format, the pictures taken at wide angle module, look highlighted effectively, but the angle here is not limiting, competitors can offer and more. In favor of same View says 30 Pro hybrid AF that works with all three cameras, whereby the same wide module can be used not only for the scenery but also for spectacular close-UPS or macro.
In General, the possibilities of shooting Honor View 30 Pro is one of the best smartphones for the money — certainly, not yet published Honor 30. Not extreme, but enough zoom, excellent picture quality, with each of the available focal lengths (the loss is noticeable only when the five-time zoom), and night — when shooting in the wide-angle module (zoom camera has been slightly folded). Honor View 30 Pro quite confidently competes with the Xiaomi Mi Note 10, and drops from the pedestal of Honor 20 Pro.
Disable AI helper can make the colors more saturated and bright, but to abuse them in Honor smartphone is not necessary — he is, as you say, “youth”, and works with some overkill. The manufacturer knows it is the default AI mode is disabled.
The night of Honor is View 30 Pro can make decent pictures even without activating night mode — but without the charm Huawei P40/P40 Pro, of course. Under very low light is already activate night mode where the smartphone is going to build a multi-frame exposure: the image is not always natural, but always detailed, with qualitatively highlighted shadows and full color. I mentioned above that really good night View 30 Pro takes with main and wide-angle cameras, zoom is more limited in this regard. I will add that at a wide angle, apparently, using a picture as the 12-megapixel module, and with a 40-megapixel, main, and combined then in 10-megapixel the 4:3 format.
For portrait mode, there is no dedicated module, but this does not prevent the smartphone well to blur the background, highlighting the main frame and correct focus (mode is face detection, of course). Portraits are available with three focal lengths, there is beautification and a set of brand filters for areas of confusion (different bokeh effects, background shading, black and so on). Portraits from Vuew 30 Pro are all very good — a full-fledged flagship level but without.
The shooting menu is different from that in EMUI 10: not too convenient system of the zoom (especially in video), clear icons, for some reason hidden under “More” shooting mode with manual settings, a sufficient number of special regimes.
See all images (22)
For video Honor View 30 Pro dedicated a special module in the manner of the Huawei Mate and Huawei Pro 30 P40 Pro – he shoots with a wide angle of combining four neighboring pixels into one (for better sensitivity at night) and HDR. Max resolution — 4K at a frame rate of 60p. Has optical stabilization, which works correctly at any resolution, but does not affect the result. Overall video quality is good, but again, as in Mate 30 Pro, video shot with the usual angle on the “photographic” sensor, it looks more clear and detailed than a wide angle shot to a special “cinematic”. Sensitivity when shooting movies is also not impressive, but to shoot at night can. Of extra modes note shooting video with blur background and with an adjustable “iris”, as well as time-lapse shooting: available with Full HD video quality at up to 960 frames per second.
The selfie-camera without any discounts good. With the usual angle of shooting is done on the module with a resolution of 32 megapixels (Quad Bayer images are captured with a resolution of 8 MP) and maximum aperture of ƒ/2.2, and with a wide angle module 8 MP, ƒ/2,2. Both are deprived of autofocus, there is only a screen flash, but it does not prevent to achieve very good shots. In General, double frontalka here knowingly takes up so much space on the screen, it really works fine.
C autonomy from Honor View 30 Pro order — battery with a capacity of 15.58 WH (4100 mAh, 3.8 V) is enough for the may daylight, even under heavy load. When you enable maximum performance autonomy will be reduced to 8-9 hours of continuous work, but for a modern smartphone, especially with the LCD screen diagonal of 6.57 inches, it is also very good.
In our test with playing Full HD-video on maximum brightness with the included Wi-Fi and auto-update, the result was just less than 10 hours. Weaker than the competition, but the explanation is simple — the LCD display.
For charging current USB Type-C (USB 3.1), operates a proprietary quick charging Super Charge 40 watts. With its help, the smartphone is charged fully in less than an hour. Supported wireless charging power up to 27 W, is reverse charging.
Honor View Pro 30 is a smartphone that proved a bit at a crossroads and is surrounded by numerous “if”. He come out at the same time with China — and he could produce a bombshell: in many ways he anticipated future flagship Huawei P40/P40 Pro, released only six months. Could, but would not have produced anyway — at the moment is the lack of Google services perceived an even greater disadvantage than today.
Now Huawei was able to neutralize a significant part of the problems associated with U.S. sanctions, but firstly, not all, and secondly, View 30 Pro released in Russia shortly before the coming of the appearance of Honor the 30 – unit, which will be a logical development of the ideas embodied in the View 30. In fact, it turned out the smartphone for anyone — or for those who need such polyfilaman right now and to wait until the beginning of the summer unbearable.
But not to mention the prophetic essence of Honor View 30 Pro, which already today is the embodiment of the key smartphone trends 2020, it is impossible. It is unique in its kind machine that will remain unnoticed.
