On the one hand — nothing new for Xiaomi, we have become accustomed to the fact that the smartphones under this brand pushing its own characteristics, which seem at times impossible for its price range. On the other — still impressive. But Xiaomi Mi A3 is also in theory was impressive, but in fact he had quite a lot of pitfalls. Maybe with Redmi Note 8 Pro, the same story?

Design, ergonomics and software
In the first look at the Redmi Note 8 Pro, I already wrote about the fact that it is not only very powerful, to be expected, but also unexpectedly cute smartphone. Usually, however, the devices of the family Redmi Note is bulky and unattractive. They choose not heart, and mind.
Note 8 Pro is also very bulky — from 6.53-inch display, even with the minimal framework (but they are really quite small), it is difficult otherwise. It’s big and heavy (200 grams), the device — in such moments before, would have written “this is a men’s gadget” — but the popularity of the iPhone Xs shovel Max and his successor iPhone 11 Pro Max the female audience warns against such hasty conclusions. This is a common modern smartphone.
But it’s a big smartphone, not without a certain elegance. Especially fresh looks, of course, the white version, about which I wrote earlier, with its silver bezel. But green Redmi Note 8 Pro good. Both the front and back panel covered with tempered glass Gorilla Glass 5, bezel plastic, but to recognize it, only noticing that on the perimeter there are no jumpers to antennas. To say that it’s the champion in terms of beauty, not even in his class, he loses Honor 9X in this regard. But to call the Note 8 Pro ugly or unattractive even my language is not rotated.
As with almost any smartphone with a glass back and curved edges, the Redmi Note 8 Pro – very slick gadget. It is better to pack it in your bag — you can buy “Ali” some of the original can and the base to limit — it is crystal clear made of silicone. And I must say that tactile Redmi Note 8 Pro is not very pleasant — despite the fact that here and on the front and on the back panel glass, the feeling, shall we say, not “flagship”.
Set of functional elements – very traditional for an Android smartphone: the two keys on the starboard side and the fingerprint scanner on the back panel, infrared sensor and microphone on the top edge of the USB Type-C and mini-Jack (Oh yeah) with a microphone and the main speaker on the bottom. No one is surprised, for the better, the Redmi Note 8 Pro — not experimental gadget and thing, designed for the most consumers with very clear expectations.

Xiaomi suddenly put in Redmi Note 8 Pro platform authorship, not Qualcomm, and very rarely occur above the level of ultrabudgetary Mediatek. The platform consists of eight cores: two ARM Cortex-A76 clock frequency of 2.05 GHz operate in the most demanding processes, six ARM Cortex-A55 2.0 GHz responsible for energy efficiency. It’s quite a modern configuration, which allows Redmi Note 8 Pro very to perform well in synthetic tests.

By default, the same Redmi Note 8 Pro takes off, like we are used to with other smartphones using the system Quad Bayer, with a resolution four times less than 16 MP. The shooting mode is set to limit permission is enabled separately. The sensor is very large for a smartphone — 1/1,7″, which helped to keep the size of the individual pixel unchanged compared to the 48-MP modules — 0.8 mm. Examples of shooting with 16 and 64 megapixels I have laid out a preliminary review of the Note 8 Pro, so that particular detail I’m not going to stop there. I can only say that is really high detail, no visible aberrations and the ability to use limit resolution in low-light conditions were a surprise, and image processing is performed more efficiently than in the realme XT. Of course, the “real” 60+ megapixels like the camera Sony a7R IV, for example, we are not talking, but it’s a working system. It is worth considering that the size of each file in the solution 9248 × 6936 averages from 14 to 17 MB of memory will get clogged very quickly.
The other three cameras is less remarkable. This wide angle module with 8-megapixel sensor (sensor size — 1/4″, the size of a single pixel of 1.12 microns) and a lens aperture of f/2.2, and which is devoid of focus, a special 2-megapixel camera with aperture f/2.2 and the large pixels (1.7 µm). A fourth camera is needed only for portrait mode is a depth sensor. Shooting wide angle is implemented quite well. Of course, not enough focus, and the detail of the pictures leaves much to be desired, but we need to remember that we’re not talking about a flagship smartphone for 60-70 thousand rubles, and the unit cost 16-18 thousand. In a head-on comparison with a direct competitor 9X Honor that we held recently, you can see a serious advantage of the Note 8 Pro. There’s also the available two-time “hybrid” zoom, which makes the smartphone a 16 megapixel crop from a 64-megapixel images. It turns out well — under difficult or low light similar image lacks detail, but overall it’s a good level.
Macro photography is done in 2 megapixel resolution and will not say that he was impressed with the result. Some particularly small focus distance, the module does not Shine, the detail, and that is logical low, the focus is fixed, the dynamic range is very limited.
In the shooting menu to center in the top row is an icon AI, which connects to the process of neural computations. The smartphone is trying to identify the situation and slightly bend the under it. The key word is “slightly”. His intervention is not always visible, is a local “artificial intelligence” accurately. Perhaps even too accurately.
Portrait mode works fine: there is the usual filters, an imitation of Studio lights and some additional blur effects — for the most part pretty useless, but the separation of the object from the background is carried out efficiently. The only problem is you don’t use the zoom, and close-UPS at a fairly wide angle the main unit be not very successful because of the inevitable optical distortions.
And of course, there is a night mode — as in the case of artificial intelligence, is not too efficient: the dynamic range is expanded is not very serious, detail average. But the shooting is done quickly — to make a series, the smartphone takes 2-3 seconds. And Yes, it should be noted the main camera allows to take pictures at night without blur, and without activation of a special mode — let the quality of the photos and do not always impress.

Video available in 4K resolution at up to 30 frames per second or Full HD at up to 60 frames per second. Front camera is also very good — 20 megapixel, lens aperture f/2.0 — focus and no flash, but with good sharpness and nice blur in portrait mode.
In Redmi Note 8 Pro, the manufacturer has established a very capacious battery, it is logical reasoning that for a smartphone with a 6.5-inch display need something more than the usual four thousand milliampere-hour. It uses the battery 17.1 W·h (4500 mAh, 3.8 V) and say that the device shows a peculiar “vitality”. But it is not bad even at full load, the smartphone will last a day, and with ordinary usage scenarios, you can count on day work.
In our traditional test playing HD-video on maximum brightness with the included updates and notifications, the Redmi Note 8 Pro lasted ten hours for a smartphone with LCD screen level, in principle, not bad.
For charging the USB Type-C supports Quick Charge 4 (18 watts). But the kit 18-watt adapter is not expected – only the standard 10 watts. With it on full charging takes about just over two hours.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro has disadvantages: the device looks good, but feels quite cheap in the hand; two of the four cameras, in fact, not needed; the screen directly configured; no moisture protection and fast charging adaptor in the kit… All of it, to be honest, looks more like nitpicking — we’re talking about the smartphone price 16-19 thousand rubles, depending on the amount of memory. And in this category the Redmi Note 8 Pro Shine — being in the lead among competitors and the recording quality (64-megapixel sensor is capable not only to put cipramil in the eye), and the performance, not even taking the unfortunate user NFC.
Today it is the most universal and the most obvious choice in the segment of “up to 20 thousand rubles,” — if you prefer a big smartphone, of course.
