Review vivo X30 Pro smartphone with 60-fold zoom is not for Russia
Vivo is a Chinese company with an interesting “floating” reputation. On the one hand it offers a fairly standard set of Chinese cheap smartphones without properties that, sometimes, it looks great in its price range, but they lack the hype (and dumping) Xiaomi/Huawei, to bite off a decent piece of the pie. On the other — from time to time emerging breakthrough models with interesting and sometimes even strange innovation: from a series of NEX (with the world’s first retractable camera, two
Presented in September 2019 vivo X30 Pro is a bright representative of this series. Today a software zoom with a tenfold or even a more serious approximation is not so surprising as a year ago, with the appearance of P30 Huawei Pro, but is still a rarity, particularly outside the flagship segment. We have OPPO Reno 10x Zoom 50 x digital zoom, Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra with 100 x digital zoom… and, well, the X30 Pro vivo with the possibility of zooming up to 60 times. But it is not only curious, not sold officially smartphone.
First, he has two teleformula: one is responsible for a twofold approach, and the second for five times. Secondly, as the hardware platform selected, the system Samsung Exynos 980: use chip Korean manufacturer out of the lineup most Samsung is always an event. An important caveat — the platform includes 5G modem. Thirdly, a front camera, inscribed in the screen space, did not notice — so small turned lens.
Oh and I have to say about the differences between versions of the X30 and X30 Pro. It is one and very simple: “normal” thirty has not received the periscope camera with the ability to shoot with a fivefold zoom. Accordingly, a 60-fold zoom model does not apply.

Design, ergonomics and software
When you first look at vivo X30 Pro it seems that in the smartphone or even no front camera (and suddenly?), or used retractable design, both in the same NEX. But no, it is present here in the form of tiny “spot” in the corner. It’s not hidden under the screen lens, but definitely a small step in this direction: the screen looks monolithic.
Otherwise we are dealing with a relatively standard design for 2020 smartphone. Large (6.44 inch) display, this time not got a curved edge while the back panel got together with a glass coating unit consisting of three chambers, located in the corner of the great stands over the body.
However, there is a surprise — apart from the block located not only flash, but also a window periscope camera. Which, in theory, just need more space — and we should expect just the ledge. But it is not.
Color variations vivo X30 Pro black (as in our case — in fact, it looks rather dark gray, the color of “wet asphalt”), “peach” and light blue. The smartphone is made from nice materials, no plastic, only metal veins mandatory for antennas and glass. Despite the fact that vivo X30 Pro refers to the average price segment (about $599), everything here is completely flagship.
The smartphone doesn’t seem huge, despite the large display. This is probably an illusion — after all I tested vivo X30 Pro from last year the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, with its screen diagonal of 6.9 inches. But to use the gadget, whatever it was, I’m comfortable in any pocket it is placed without problems, the interaction with the screen is straightforward.
In the set of functional elements only a single surprise — made at the left edge of the call key signature helper Jovi (useless outside of China). On the right side — standard keys power/lock gadget and adjust the volume. Bottom — port USB Type-C. the Top has a mini Jack that, however, also unexpectedly.
The fingerprint scanner is located below the screen. This optical sensor, that is to unlock the phone with a wet finger, or perhaps a rain will be difficult. But if everything is in order — the finger is dry, and no excess moisture, it works quickly and accurately. To capacitive still falls short, but honestly, serious problems with the unlock I have not experienced. Modern ultrasonic and optical sensors are working pretty well. There are extra function of the user identification by face — it uses the front facing camera without any additional sensors. Works recognition fast but unreliable method. The smartphone itself offers the use of both methods of identification in conjunction — not giving preference to the scanner.

Operating system – Android 9 Pie, about the upgrade to Android 10 until you came. Shell FunTouch 10. Today it is one of the most intricate and strange skins for Android, but to do it serious conclusions on the basis of this particular instance X30 Pro would be wrong. Before us is a smartphone for the Chinese market — with all the consequences. The interface is Russified, but it is not even immediately notice it is full of local services and is riddled with “tentacles” mentioned helper Jovi, leaving a lot of notifications in Chinese.
Google Mobile Services are disabled by default — that is, no Google Play, but to log in to your account. But it is not Huawei: here GMS are not blocked by Google, not pre-installed unnecessary. Even dancing with a tambourine to get them back, no need to download services together with Google Play directly from the company shop V-Appstore; the account is easy to create in a special box in the settings, this option is provided. Then use vivo X30 Pro is as an ordinary Android smartphone — but with a lot of the Chinese language, which is the end away from the system does not work. By itself, the shell stands out for its key front-end solution, find the bottom of the notification bar and not too high-quality Russification. Works quickly and without much bugs.
Display and sound
Unlike the flagship in the face of the NEX 3, vivo X30 Pro has received not curved Waterfall display, but quite normal, flat screen. But in any case it does not small diagonal of 6.44 inch and a resolution of 2400 × 1080 pixels. Pretty standard for such a diagonal resolution: it provides the density of pictures in 409 ppi. It is quite normal.
Matrix quality, with excellent viewing angles, but to the “sandwich”, which consists of a glass faceplate, there are serious issues. The polarizing layer in place, the air layer is absent (when there the last time we saw a smartphone with a layer? So in the year 2014?). But the oleophobic coating is not. At all. On the screen not just leave marks on the fingers, its surface is abraded, appear unremovable marks. To notice them only when display is off and what’s more — if you look at it at an angle, but in any case, it’s pretty unpleasant and not too seriously. I would even doubt the presence here of tempered glass — at least no information on it I in the public domain not found — but it’s still unlikely. To check the smartphone crash test, obviously I did not.
The quality of picture to display X30 Pro vivo to bring a claim difficult. The maximum measured brightness amounted to 481 CD/m2 – OLED-display zamechatelny indicator. In the sun to use the smartphone comfortable.
In the display settings you can change the size and style of the fonts, activate the automatic brightness control, enable dark mode, lock rotation, to enable reduction of flicker at low brightness (using technology DC Dimming) and adjust the color. In the appropriate tab, you can manually change the color temperature, and choose one of three color presets: standard, normal, or bright. They differ primarily by the width of the color gamut. I measured the performance display in the standard mode, which is the default, and normal.
In standard mode, the color gamut is expanded, close to the standard DCI-P3. The gamma curves is relatively stable, though, and begin to dance closer to the light shades, middle spectrum corresponds to the normal of 2.22. The color temperature is increased — varies from 7 500 to 8 500 K. the Colors noticeably colder due. The average deviation of DeltaE scale Color Checker including a wide range of colors and shades of gray, is at the rate of 4.94 3.00 — acceptable, though far from ideal result.
When you activate a normal mode, the color space is narrowed almost to the sRGB standard, but slightly offset — much the same way as in the case of the standard mode. Gamma is 2.25 in, and curves behave less consistently. The colors are warming, but not too much – up to 7 500 To, for certain hints coming down to 7 000 K. the Average deviation of DeltaE Color Checker on a scale approaching the norm, but still does not fit into its boundaries to 3.55.
In vivo X30 Pro has a mini-Jack is already good. Any particular DAC is not provided here, but for the average user the level of sound path will be enough. For my taste, it lacks the capacity — both for wired data transmission, analog, and digital connection via Bluetooth. Support aptX and LDAC, I could not find — but serious criticism is the quality of information transfer without wires I have had. But for maximum volume — Yes, it claims to have. The external speaker is more than loud, even though monaural.
