Since then, 10 years ago appeared first mirrorless camera, the debate about their role in the development of the market of photographic equipment is not quenched. Someone once said about the great potential of a new type of cameras, but the arguments of the defenders DSLRs initially looked very noticeable: optical viewfinder, better autofocus and, most importantly, a full-size sensor are the main advantages that are most often voiced when comparing the classics with mirrorless cameras. And indeed, despite the fact that all the leading manufacturers, paying tribute to progress, sooner or later created his series of besserglik (in the case of Canon’s family of Canon EOS M), the quality of the images and functionality for a long time did not reach the level required by professionals.

The situation in 2013 has changed the company Sony, releasing their first full-frame buttercake – A7 and A7r. It became apparent that, despite the relative compactness of the case before us is a serious tool, capable of delivering serious results. However, it took 5 years before such giants as Nikon and Canon released their “serious” mirrorless cameras. After presents in August Z6 and Z7 Nikon, Canon produced a solution – the R EOS with full-frame image sensor resolution MP 30.3. And, it seems, now finally it is time to recognize that 2018 was a watershed in the world of photography.

The main features of the EOS R

New lens mount. As in the case of new buttercake Nikon, a key innovation of the EOS R was specially developed lens mount RF. New shooting mode. The Canon EOS R we first see shooting mode Fv. Design and ergonomics

Despite the fact that the optical viewfinder is often called the advantage of DSLRs that can’t be beat, it’s not so simple: for example, when shooting in low-light conditions, the electronic version wins as it gives the opportunity to see the subjects. Despite the fact that most of the time was convenient for me to operate using the main screen, the viewfinder also made a good impression – the image looks detailed and bright.

With this camera I fully moved away from the familiar DSLRs shooting through the viewfinder almost all the time was removed with the help of the touch screen was convenient for me to build a composition, to be able to rotate the screen for shooting from low point to see the picture in real time and focus, setting a point by the touch of a finger. The screen is good enough to shoot in the sun, even when I wanted to switch to shooting through the viewfinder was quite small.

For me to get used to the ergonomics of the R EOS was not difficult – in spite of some differences from the SLR models of Canon, the General gist is preserved. The camera is comfortable to hold with one hand – here, as in SLRs, there is a large ledge to grab. With lens RF Canon 24—105mm f/4L IS USM camera weight is distributed is quite balanced. Most interesting, of course, was to try a completely new element – the touchpad for the thumb of the right hand. To be honest, the idea seemed interesting, but it made me rather disappointed. My problem was that I installed it on the touchpad control ISO (left – to decrease sensitivity, right – increase), but the fact of the matter is when you work touched a finger of his right side. Notice it at once, and I was irritated by the situation, when I got in the picture is not the ISO that was set initially. The only way is to disable part of the panel at all (but once something is created it needs to function, otherwise it makes no sense) or to activate the unlocking of the panel after the second retention finger.

But the opportunity to “hang” some sort of setting on the lens ring – in my opinion, good find. Lenses with the iris adjustment ring I have always evoked sympathy.

Work offline

I managed to test the camera under conditions of intense reportage photography.
