But in General, the development of the family of smartphones Huawei recent years resembles the concept of Intel’s famous “tick-tock”: the spring mobile P-series offers new solutions in the field of cameras, then as autumn, the business-oriented Mate uses these same developments plus a wide public with new hardware platform HiSilicon Kirin fighting for the title of most powerful smartphone in the world. This year the situation is, at first glance, has not changed: 20 and Mate, and Mate 20 Pro along with announced in early September, the platform Kirin 980 have a system of three rear cameras, as well as P20 Pro. With one good but: the module is made in a different way.

Instead of proprietary solutions with RGB and monochrome sensors, augmented this year by the secondary camera, which made possible a three-fold optical zoom, new series Mate got three cameras with different focal lengths: with the usual angle, telephoto and wider angle. 20 and Mate, and Mate 20 Pro will work on the basis of fresh hardware platform HiSilicon Kirin 980. It uses the second version of the ad hoc module to work with neural network computing (HiAI), which first appeared in last year’s Kirin 970. But it’s not the most important advantage of the new system-on-chip — there’s a whole complex. First, this is the second (after Apple A12 Bionic) system designed for 7-nm process technology. The transition has improved the energy efficiency by as much as 40 %, and the density of elements increased in 1.6 times — Kirin 980 contains 6.9 billion transistors. For comparison, Kirin 970 had 5.5 billion, and Kirin 950 ― 3 billion.

Secondly, the new scheme of the kernel is big.LITTLE – big+middle+little. A dual core ARM Cortex-A76 as part of the processor working at 2.6 GHz, another two of the same nucleus have lower frequency of 1.92 GHz and act just as the middle-cores. Finally, four energy-efficient Cortex-A55 operate at a frequency of 1.8 GHz.

All this is complemented by new graphics subsystem Mali-G76. Compared to the Mali-G72, Kirin established in 970, the claimed performance increase by 46% and efficiency of 178 %. At least four months (until the release of the first gadgets on the next generation of the flagship platform Qualcomm) Mate 20 and 20 Mate Pro will be the most powerful Android smartphones.
