Developers, who throughout the long years of releasing games of the same series, at some point it gets boring. Doing Volition Saints Row, but then I took a chance and released the Agents of Mayhem. A Rebellion, known for the cooperative shooter sniper Sniper Elite, suddenly decided to leave behind the Second world war and Hitler, and drew attention to the adventure films like “the Mummy” and “Indiana Jones”. Its Strange Brigade tells about a group of travellers, treasure seekers in Egypt in 1930.
Who are all these people?
Like everything here indicates that the game should be playful, fun and a breathtaking adventure in fact! Characters fall into a luxuriously drawn locations, explore each area, you encounter zombies, skeletons, mummies and other evil spirits, firing their limbs and collecting gold. But the game never used the full potential of the beautiful detailed environments, and the plot fades into the background and instantly “blown away”.
Very easy to take several different from each other characters to call their team “the Strange brigade”. The brigade’s odd, what you still need to explain what is happening? Therefore, before each mission in the airship sitting a former military man, the engineer straight from the old American posters, studied at Oxford archaeologist and painted black. Rollers between jobs somehow seem in black and white and the subtitles are tiny, like the developers not really matter whether you actually read them.
In the story of this company goes to Egypt to pacify the awakened evil. Queen Zeteki not just came back from the dead, but gathered an army of minions with which to gradually “become familiar” characters. At first it is not the most dangerous zombies, Scorpions and skeletons, but then added to them mummy, clothed in the armor of the Minotaurs and the huge animated statues of the gods. Some move slowly and cause damage up close, others throw grenades, others run at full speed and try to shoot down our fighters with foot — skills of a lot of enemies.
But even a variety of opponents not saved from boredom, from the Strange Brigade quickly start to get tired, because it is generally no different from hundreds of other cooperative action games. The same Sniper Elite had several special features: an emphasis on shooting from distance, the ability to distract enemies and raise the alarm, finally, the famous “x-ray” mechanics of bullets. It could get bored after a couple of hours, but at the same time has allocated a series on the General background.
Strange Brigade offers only two things: traps and absolute ability. Traps work very simply — you can bring a group of enemies to exploding barrels, fire plate or a circular saw, and then shoot the lever and instantly kill a dozen opponents. It’s funny, but until the final trap will remain the same, some interesting new ways to deal with the crowd of skeletons will appear.
Absolute ability is almost useless. Eliminating the undead, you will be able to collect souls that fill the scale at the bottom of the screen and then unleash a powerful attack the attacker: to put an electrical charge that is moved from one enemy to another, or make a kick on the ground and throw zombies. As an escape from the crowd surrounded these skills are sometimes useful, but in most cases to activate them is just for the sake of cute special effects. And in the “Horde” ability accumulates so slowly that it is and do not remember. However, on this below.
Why playing Strange Brigade alone, sad, — all her faults, appear very distinctly. Especially poorly implemented shooting, migrated here from Sniper Elite. But if there is we rarely took up something other than a sniper rifle, you’re constantly running around with machine guns and shotguns. Not only that, shoot from the hip and not very opponents are slow to react to your contact. Killing mummy takes about ten shots from a shotgun, and even with a short strip of lives over her head it’s impossible to say hurt you or not.
“Brigade” is a brigade
Through the game preferably in the co-op, and this is best done with friends. To your “Strange crew” was fun, each level (except the final) saturated the puzzles: you have to stand on the pedestals in a certain order, shooting light bulbs, then please find the door code and activate buttons.
It is a pity that all the puzzles turned out as simple as possible, if not to say primitive. Codes usually there are no problems, and sometimes the treasures are hidden behind locks, they are presented in the form of a field of 16 cells with fragments of the pipes on each. You have to “lay” pipe from entry to exit, firing at the cells and turning the fragments in the desired direction. As though something hard happened except that the puzzles in which this field is divided into 9 parts, and hit on one of them deploys a few others. But these puzzles won’t keep you long.
However, with friends, even in a game like this interesting. The passage of one level takes about an hour, if not run forward at breakneck speed. Numerous branches lead to treasure chests, secrets, mysteries and ancient artifacts. Not quite logical, it takes only one who found it, and share money it is impossible, despite the fact that the currency needed to buy additional weapons — starting “guns” are no good. But for passing on normal difficulty it is not critical.
Another thing is that all the levels built on the same scenario: shooting, break from mysteries, to repeat it five or six times, and in the end to fight a boss. In the first three missions to bother with the bosses do not have you represent three waves, simultaneously destroying the huge ball in the center location. Only then encountered animated statues that to win we have to shoot at vulnerable sites. Thanks to the great lot of opponents and compact arenas, these episodes are quite dynamic.
Outside of the campaign, two additional modes. “The Horde” you will find yourself on a small platform with only one gun and destroy the crowd of monsters, earning currency and buy new weapons. Alone, bored, with friends pretty funny. For solo players it will be more interesting regime with getting your points — the faster you kill zombies and skeletons, the better will be the final result. There are traps you have to use, and a bonus weapon to pick up. The mode offers additional challenges like eliminating multiple enemies with headshots, and for their implementation give the extra couple of thousand points.
Strange Brigade turned out, forgive the pun, game. It is sometimes very beautiful — each location is clearly working passionate team of artists. However, in such splendid scenery unfolds just an ordinary shooter with a crooked shooting and lack of fresh ideas. It’s not a bad entertainment for friends, has long been izlazima the length and breadth of Dying Light, both of Warships and other co-op hits. But the game has many flaws and strange design decisions that recommend it can do that at a large discount.
- very beautiful location with a huge number of details;
- search and solving puzzles in co-op for some time, fascinated;
- not a bad shooter for the company of friends.
- solo play is boring because of the monotonous missions;
- mediocre shooting;
- the characters do not communicate with each other during the tasks, their background practically are not revealed;
- the lack of new ideas, stereotyped;
- muddled plot which cease to follow after the first movie.
|Graphics||The graphics are not the most modern but the game looks gorgeous at times. And manages to run at 60 fps on consoles, just need to put the appropriate checkbox in the settings.|
|Sound||Music is not remembered, and the characters often repeat the same phrase, that the passage in co-op it is better to disable the dialogue at all.|
|Single game||Alone Strange Brigade very quickly get bored. The campaign is fairly long but the missions are very monotonous.|
|Multiplayer||The co-op a little more fun together to solve puzzles, collect treasure and look for secrets can be fun. The shortcomings are not so noticeable, but will not disappear.|
|Overall impression||A beautiful game that nothing special stands out against the background of many a higher quality competition.|
