Fatshark stuffed his hand in the organization of online battles in the War of the Roses and War of the Vikings, but few expected level project, Left 4 Dead, especially after the failed Escape Dead Island. However, Warhammer: End Times — Vermintide surprised. The Swedish independent game Studio with fifty employees if not equal to the Valve film series about zombies, then at least breathed heavily down her neck. And the fresh, fierce anger of Sigmar Warhammer: Vermintide 2 has everything to make the players forget about the potential Left 4 Dead 3.
The end of the world postponed. Again
The first part told about the event in the Warhammer universe called the End times. As you can guess, things are bad. The land was mired in war, a Kingdom in strife, wherever you spit — everywhere danger. As if all problems were not enough, another Skaven humanoid rats living under the earth, got out and waves to the screaming fur struck the city Ubersreik. In his defense he faced the five valiant heroes, who managed incredible efforts to repel the attack. The city, however, still not much trouble. But the problems did not end there. Rather, just begun.
During the break between the two games, our fantastic five Ubersreik is captured and Vermintide 2 begins with the escape from the caves, where, as we know, Skaven are preparing a new invasion. And this time, the rat was connected to his nasty case of the forces of Chaos. So the heroes working again! Immediately catches the eye increasing the quality of performances — Fatshark definitely paid more attention to history. She is still very sketchy, but now at least represents a clear storyline, and the transitions from one level to another are much smoother.
Before the locations were static and close — to them nothing was exciting. Interesting style of fantasy Apocalypse Yes picturesque landscapes to save the situation. Jobs lacked diversity, they were divided into three types: run from point A to point B, collect barrels/bags or survive on a small stage. Vermintide 2 much livelier.
Now each card is a full — fledged mission in 20-30 minutes, where in most cases we are giving out some findings, visual or gameplay. Should still be a team to get through the Horde of enemies to the final line, but along the way you will find many interesting. One mission, for example, you need to combine three stone disk on a second — down mounting of a huge bell, and somewhere, just need to beat the boss or run by slipping into the abyss of the quarter.
Landscapes are much more beautiful. Warhammer: Vermintide 2 looks great. Studio uses its own engine that is specially tailored to the game, and we can constantly observe majestically gloomy picture and dozens of enemies on screen (with a rather modest system requirements).
Noticeable that the guys from Fatshark have carefully studied the reviews of fans about the previous draft. They understand that in Vermintide worked well and attracted players and went for the classic way of building muscles in a proven skeleton. The lobby still is not just a menu, and a full location, only this time we are not crowded in a modest tavern, and comfortably settled in the castle among the snowy mountains. Can enjoy the surroundings, enjoy the views or to test out new weapons on mannequins. Very convenient.
On the task Board, you can select the next target, set the difficulty and the parameters of the search companion. Team selection is almost instantaneous, and if your request nothing has been found, that you become the host of a new game, and party members will join quickly. In the end, Devastation only in the first days has sold over half a million copies, so in the coming months are unlikely to be any problems with the company.
On the job we are now going on the wagon, and through the teleportation stones, which allowed to expand the geography: the action takes place in a variety of places, from the abandoned shrines of the dwarves to lush forests and mountain peaks. Invariably only one thing — even the most peaceful the countryside is teeming with danger. The first part was not simple and required team work. In the sequel, victory requires more effort.
Divided, we fall
Even at a low level of difficulty the first few rounds, most likely, will end the ignominious death under the onslaught of the Skaven and haositov. Success will come after understanding the main rule — never shared. Single here not just to die, and fail the whole group, which can rush to save the fool and fall under the distribution.
It is desirable, of course, to talk with each other, but even if you just stick together, then the probability to do the job and get to the saving teleport will be much higher. The emergence of the forces of Chaos made the enemies more diverse. Even the standard cannon fodder has a hierarchy — from the little men to experienced fighters, able to tickle the nerves. Increased number of unique enemies. Alone “tanks” can be counted four species, each with its own characteristics.
Game “Director” — the artificial intelligence responsible for the generation of battle — sometimes literally mocking you, throwing assorted creatures. Moreover, the large mutant and tries to catch someone with his tentacles and eat (restoring your health at the same time) on all sides on top of stirring about the sea of sharp teeth and rotten faces of the servants nurgla. And this sea is often dissected clad in the unholy armor Champions of Chaos.
Cradle 2 does not give concessions, but it creates a variety of situations. Despite the simplicity of the combat system (punch, strong kick, block Yes bounce to the side) to pass thirteen cards again and again is not boring. They themselves are interesting, and you never know how to turn you waiting for the ambush. A trivial example: on one level, it is necessary to escort a battering RAM to the gate. Who will attack in every next time — I have no idea. And sometimes the enemy may not be declared. However, tension still dripping with sweat. “Director” is harsh and very strange.
If the standard complications you suddenly seem a little, then for you there is a “heroic act” — special conditions that change the events on the map. For example, instead of small rats patrols will consist of armoured legionaries or health will continuously decline by itself. These modifiers are posing severe challenge to the coordinated team and are forced to repeatedly return to the Cradle 2.
Between the characters became even more differences. In the previous part of the uniqueness was due to a limitation in weapons: dwarf Bardin was well in keeping back the crowd, using the shield, and the elf, Trillian inflicted enormous damage to the vortex pair of swords. The sequel focuses on the role-playing component. Now the characters have three specialties, each with their own skills and skill tree. In the end — as many as fifteen variants. Even for one of the characters, subclasses may vary greatly. For example, Victor Seltzer can become a bounty hunter with nice bonuses to ranged combat, and can be clothed in a robe of the fanatic and famously waving his flail, balancing on the brink of death for the sake of high damage.
Career, coupled with a wide Arsenal of weapons gives a lot of room for experimentation and exploration of style. The benefit of a redesigned rewards system allows you to quickly get hold of a outfit for your favorite character. Now an award weapon issue it is for the character you are playing. Throws bones gone, in their place — the usual boxes with items. They are given for the passage of cards and increase the level. The higher the difficulty the better the reward. As before, search for books and grimoires (which are this time very cleverly hidden) complicates the game, but increases the probability to obtain rare or exotic thing.
Magicians from Fatshark wove a real vicious circle: after each victory you are waiting for some new item that immediately want to check in. But the following passage gives a new and unique moments. Again and again, until you notice that late at night, and it would be nice to sleep a couple of hours before work. This scheme is not can ruin even the rare disadvantages. Basically I want to chide Vermintide 2 for an awkward interface: the manufacture of objects will not be called intuitive, and the parameters of the characters you will not find anywhere else. Because of this absolutely clear: the item parameter “+20 to life” — rubbish or not? But it quickly close my eyes, and patches is an easy fix.
The developers plan to actively support their offspring. In addition to patches with bug fixes and balance edits, next month we are waiting for two new cards. These supplements will be released for a long time. I hope that Horde mode will add, because in the first part he came in handy. Judging by how enthusiastically Fatshark developed after a previous Cradle release, this time it will be worse.

The subtitle is End Times has disappeared from the title very well. For us, definitely not the end of the road for Warhammer: Vermintide. This is only the beginning.
