Review smartphone ASUS Zenfone 3 Max: maximum charge
Surprisingly, none of the latest smartphones ASUS will not allow its owner word answer to the question “What’s your phone?” There are the usual Zenfone 3, Zenfone 3 is Ultra, there are 3 Deluxe Zenfone, Zenfone 3 Zenfone Laser and 3 Max. Each of these versions exists in different versions. Zefone 3 Max, which we tested today, is positioned as an affordable and practical device with high-capacity battery.
However, it also has two modifications, which have virtually nothing in common. Different screens, different processors, amounts of memory, built-in camera – even easier would be to list what they do not differ. So whoever choose this Zenfone 3 Max should be sure to clarify that he had a smartphone with a 5.2-inch screen on the platform Mediatek, 2 GB of internal memory.

Design, ergonomics, software
Of course, all model ASUS Zenfone 3 in varying degrees, resemble each other in appearance. Clearly stand out of the whole number only the most expensive Zenfone 3 Deluxe and largest Zenfone 3 Ultra. Differences of other modifications most of all I would like to describe a famous illustration from the book by Alexander Demin. While there are certainly differences in the materials and some details on the rear panel.
ASUS Zenfone 3 Max with 5.2-inch screen (ZC520TL) is available in three colors: dark gray, light gray and gold (officially – Titanium Grey, Glacier Silver, Sand Gold). And the model with 5.5-inch screen (ZC553TL) exists also in pink. The colors are very discreet, discreet. Even rose seems to be OK. The case design is unlikely for someone revelation, but in its price range Zenfone 3 Max looks quite decent.
The front side contains no controls. Under the screen, no touch buttons (they are a software and displayed on the lower edge of the display), no fingerprint scanner (located at the rear). In short, a pleasant and healthy minimalism.
Caseback is correctly arranged from an engineering point of view. By the photos it may seem that it is entirely metal, and thin metal grooves above and below perform a purely decorative function. But in fact they mark the border of the metal part is approximately one centimeter from the top and bottom is a plastic insert. Eye no difference between metal and plastic parts you will not notice – the materials have similar texture and color.
Plastic insert creates a window for the built-in antennas and wireless models – smartphone confidently holds communication even at low signal level. In addition, the plastic softens the blow, so the smartphone are more likely to survive the fall. Obviously buyers are cheap tubes are not accustomed to overspend, so reliability is not exactly hurt.
Zenfone 3 Max does not claim to be edge-to-edge smartphone – the display here is only 68% of the area of the front panel. Not the most impressive figure by the standards of 2016, but about the same number boasts iPhone 6s, and it does not bother anyone. I mentioned last year Apple smartphone – Zenfone 3 Max is very similar to him in a tactile way. Yes, the Taiwanese camera significantly larger, runs on a different operating system and is several times cheaper, but I’m talking only about the sensations to the touch.
The camera lens does not protrude outside the case, and even on the contrary – located in a small cavity. This is very good from a security point of view – so the lens harder to scratch, but not very well from the point of view of ergonomics, because the fingerprint sensor is very close and also in a small cavity. In normal conditions you surface texture will instantly know I put a finger in there, but in the winter on the street it becomes more difficult – frozen finger difference is not felt.
All latest ASUS smart phones running Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and shell Zen UI 3.0. In this respect, Zenfone 3 Max is no different from the previously reviewed Zenfone Zenfone 3 and 3 Ultra. The shell is well optimized and well adapted for various screen resolution.
Can’t say that the Zen UI is radically different from traditional Android, so you don’t have to get used to when switching from any other smartphone. But in the details differences enough. For example, ASUS for some reason replaced the standard system fonts with my own and redrew all the icons. But it’s all too subjective – I, for example, the font is not worried at all, and the new icons look quite organically, unlike the recent ZTE Axon 7. And the possibility of customization of the quick access icons on the top of the curtain in General we can set an example to other manufacturers.
Traditional claim to ASUS – too much pre-installed software. In memory of Zenfone 3 Max in addition to the usual (and unnecessary in Russia) application ZenTalk sewn customer Amazon Kindle (need account) the browser Puffin, and Instagram, Tripadviser and several games.
