Overview of smartphone Wileyfox Swift 2 X: Mr. Fox
The main difference between apparatus Wileyfox from their own kind is the shell Cyanogen OS, which was, and remains a favorite toy of mobile geeks. Combining the task scheduler and BFS official branch of Android, it theoretically offers greater reliability and system performance, and also contains a number of “Goodies”, like support for OpenVPN and more extensive possibilities for customization of the interface. But in fact the average user the differences from Android will not catch the eye. It’s for the best, because the products Wileyfox just designed for the masses and not only (not so much) geeks.
What can attract in this apparatus the mass consumer, so it is, firstly, quite an interesting design and, partially, metal case, and secondly, some sense of the smartphone from a European company – the brand was in the UK. There is also the headquarters Wileyfox.
The technical characteristics of the devices Wileyfox not stand out too much – there are now enough Chinese smartphone for the same money, which is able to put the “Fox” counterparts in AnTuTu on the shoulder. Their strength is in the combination of qualities and Cyanogen, which even on weaker hardware, the smartphone can run fast enough.
We recently talked about the direct successor of the acclaimed Swift model Swift 2 Plus. Despite the “plus” in the title, set in it display from the first apparatus or Swift Swift 2, it has the same diagonal of five inches.
For those wishing to obtain simultaneously a large diagonal and higher resolution, just designed Swift 2 X with 5.2-inch display with a resolution of Full HD and touch surface with 10-point touch recognition (not 5, as in previous models). At the same time — compared to the Plus version — the new one is thinner and sleeker. The filling is the same no different: 430 Snapdragon + 3GB RAM + flash drive 32 GB with the possibility of installing a memory card. Look how confident this hardware works with a Full HD display.

Design, ergonomics and software
Externally, 2 X Swift – almost an exact copy of the Plus version, which makes perfect sense – to produce a zoo of diverse smartphones within the same subspecies makes no sense. All trademarks are also in place: a stylized Fox face under the screen and on the back, the cut on a major lens of the main camera and speaker in retro style – round and covered with a shiny mesh.
The smartphone is available in two color variations, named, as is customary, fancy: Champagne Gold (we have one such) and Midnight Blue (can be assessed on the review of the Swift 2 Plus). They vary in color not only the rear but also the front panel: in the first case it is white, the second black. The display, unfortunately, as usual surrounded by a black border, making it visually more off and slightly annoying when it is turned another trick, which today uses more and more manufacturers.
Screen with safety glass Gorilla Glass 3 with a slightly curved surface (2.5 D). You can complain that the screen doesn’t occupy the maximum area of the front panel – but this race, frankly, makes no sense. The edges of the screen too close to the appropriate faces or even creeps them look impressive, but not too great impact on the reliability of the device and its resistance to mechanical damage.
Discomfort when you work with Swift 2 X feel – as I mentioned above, despite the larger display, the device only became thinner. Of course, it became wider and higher, but only slightly, and completely preserved weight (155 grams) – the feeling of using Swift 2 X approximately same as that from Swift 2 Plus.
The body is made of aluminum, minus the front panel is covered with glass and plastic inserts on top and bottom of the rear panel and down the hidden antenna. Build quality – is that a little scary mini-Jack, slightly creeps on the bevelled upper face.
It is necessary to tell about a rather sharp projections on the side faces – however, they rather stand out visually, keep a smartphone in hand quite comfortably, fingers it does not hurt.
The fingerprint scanner located at the back in a small cavity, for it is the same as the protective glass of the camera situated directly above it. The sensor is pretty standard capacitive. Until the finger is intact, everything works quickly and without errors. But from time to time will have to overwrite the print. It is, however, a feature of all capacitive scanners, here are the budget models do not differ from the flagships.
Pro shell Cyanogen OS we wrote in the review of the first Wileyfox Swift. Since then, the situation concerning design and functionality of the Cyanogen Mod (Cyanogen OS in the commercial version) has not changed much – it’s still very flexible in terms of appearance, smart and energy-efficient system. Memory leaks are almost invisible, and the power consumption in the standby mode tends to zero is a sign of a good shell. It looks very similar to Android and it is “clean”, with minimal additional software. You can only be happy.
But the prospects for Cyanogen OS has since changed dramatically. The company first officially abandoned plans to impose a large-scale competition of Android, and with the new year and all stopped releasing new firmware, leaving all to the will of the community. It can be expected that some time (maybe even very long) shell to be updated due to the forces active community, but the future of Cyanogen OS has definitely not. Wileyfox Swift 2 X can be one of the latest smartphones in this firmware. Even more than that – after some time the device will updated to Android 7.0 Nougat, getting rid of the shell. There will be no charms of Cyanogen OS, no difficulties with updates — it’s simple.
