Samsung has traditionally released just three apparatus A-series, very similar in design and philosophy, but with different diagonal display slightly different characteristics. Have not changed themselves and the Koreans in 2017. We took the test all the family: A3 with display of 4.7 inches and a 13-megapixel camera, A5 with a 5.2-inch screen and 16-megapixel camera and A7 with the same photo module, but the 5.7-inch display. A5 and A7 are built on the platform of Exynos 7880 (eight cores with

a peak frequency of 1.9 GHz) and carrying on Board 3 GB of RAM. The A3 got the same processor, but clocked at 1.6 GHz and two gigabytes of RAM.

Left to right: Samsung Galaxy A3, Samsung Galaxy A5, Samsung Galaxy A7

In fact, the scheme is the same as last year: as the main source of inspiration taken last Galaxy S generation, but he has slightly clipped wings-features (platform easier, the screen is high with a Full HD resolution, pozaproshlogodnie camera). The main features in this place: and Gorilla Glass on both sides (and the version this time is not specified — it is very likely that the Koreans have abandoned the fifth), and protection from water and dust according to IP68 standard, and a slot for a memory card. And a mini-Jack is still in place. Packaged devices are completely at the flagship level, it looks great behind – full A-brand, but they fall in the price range from 23 to 33 thousand rubles. Potential hits?

Design, ergonomics and software

All three smartphones the A-series differ from each other only in size, and Galaxy S7 (not edge) only some small and not too noticeable at first glance details. It is quite logical – the Samsung plays on the feelings of those who wouldn’t mind having like a flagship smartphone, but doesn’t want to pay a lot. The main differences between A-series this year: no additional sensors (approximation) above the display, two compartments for cards (and memory, and camera) are not as strong bending of the rear panel and the other block camera with a smaller-sized window lens without laser auto focus. And the speaker moved from the bottom face side.

The essence remained the same: the glass on both sides, physical Home button that has an inbuilt fingerprint scanner, calibrated thickness (7.9 mm), making the smartphone very comfortable to hold with one hand. Plus rounded, visually very “soft” form and metal face. Stylish, modern-looking, balanced smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy A-series front panel: on the display – the earpiece, light sensor, front camera, under the display are three navigation keys, two touch screen and mechanical button Home

More convenient and more fun all I of the three models to work with A3, but this is pure subjectivism – I just like small smartphones. And in the category , by the way, the A3 is almost unique offer. I, however, will return in the conclusions. The second reason I particularly well, “walked” it – it’s color. Not a classic, but hateful black or Golden, and blue, and a pleasant, calm tone. Here, however, there is a space when you select any model: color General and for the A3, A5 and A7, just to test the larger models we got in black.

Samsung A-series, rear panel: the main camera lens and led flash

Build quality is good, although personally I didn’t like the Home button is slightly razboltannym and not clearly fixing depression. To unlock using the fingerprint, however, to press it entirely optional – it responds to a simple touch.

Samsung A-series, the bottom face (for example A5): mini-Jack (3.5 mm) for earphone/headset port USB Type-C and a microphone

When testing Galaxy S7 I found fault with tempered glass on the front that at the rear – it’s too easy collecting scratches and chips, even if you do not carry a smartphone with keys and change. Simply put on an uneven surface – and welcome to the hell of a perfectionist. Unfortunately, the problem migrated here – the case is very easy to assemble microscopic and barely noticeable scratches that are nevertheless very annoying, especially when on the black glossy housing that is exposed to direct sunbeam.

Samsung A-series, left side (for example A5): the volume keys and the shutter of the camera, and the second slot for the SIM card. The Galaxy A3 slot is missing

Samsung A-series, right side (for example A5): power button and main speaker

But there are differences from Galaxy S7, and for the better. For example, it does not protrude from the housing of the camera unit is also true for all three models. Personally I do not think the big advantage is to notice, did you protruding camera, leaving her fingerprint is still easier. But perfectionists will be pleased.

The speaker is better. I did a lot of talking about how uncomfortable he was located in S7 – a little grating inevitably cover with your finger when viewing something in landscape orientation and, accordingly, completely dampen the sound. Here he found himself on the upper half of the right side – and it is, I tell you, a great place. Do not block the hand or the table — if it is.

Case vodozaschischen according to the IP68 standard (up to half an hour at a depth of half a meter) from splashes and accidental contact with water. This is one of the most important pieces of the Galaxy A family of this generation, that sets it apart from competitors, and even most flagships.

Fingerprint scanner built into the button on the front panel, lets you unlock the phone and approve purchases from Samsung Pay (a proprietary payment system is supported in A5 with the A7 last year, and in A3 — for this unit it is a novelty). Such a location of the sensor, I know many like it, but I feel more comfortable working with the scanner located on the rear of a grip for my taste, more reliable, likely to drop the device when you unlock much lower. However, again a matter of taste. When switching from iPhone to Android smartphone, such a scheme would in any case be perceived more naturally.

To test the vehicles arrived with another Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, covered with a proprietary shell Clean UI. Interestingly, in the past has gone, not only TouchWiz (remember again, no clinking), and Grace UX shown in Note 7, Samsung swept all traces of the failed (but very good in everything except fuel battery) gadget. Philosophy, however, remained unchanged, the shell is perfectly familiar with last year’s models. Then and Always-On Display that shows the current time and notification icons on screen in standby mode, and a neat visual style, wherein the default icons to dress in rounded frame (but this can be disabled), and your system fonts (nice), and good optimization, thanks to which the smartphone is eating very little power in standby mode. Earlier it was a weak point of Samsung smartphones, as well as quite a number imposed by the applications. Now this is no problem.

The main innovation of the sheath is more flexible optimization capability, although fully able to evaluate only users S7/S7 edge, which will receive nearly manual control performance in the upgrade to Android 7.0. Have the opportunity to increase the “capacity” of the working window (5 × 5 icons), but to get rid of the special applications menu is still impossible. There are many small improvements, but, for example, the activation process of the smartphone still seems endless: here Samsung and not think to take the position, holding the leaders in this alternative ranking. Less than 5-7 minutes to get to the start screen will not work.
