Review of the smartphone Honor 9: in shining armor
About the tactics Huawei to create the flagship series smartphones Honor I wrote in the preliminary review directly from the event company takes their top-end camera, available approximately six months prior to the announcement of the key sub-brand, wraps it in a new wrapper, slightly (very slightly) changes the characteristics and sells for a third less. Voila – ready hit! It worked from 8 Honor, which grew out Huawei P9, it works and with Honor 9 – the actual result of the restyling,
While their style Honor 9 inherits the predecessor to fundamentally change the design of the Chinese did not, so we are dealing with another shining and sparkling in the sunlight gadget. Except that on the front panel button appeared with a fingerprint scanner, the dimensions have changed slightly, and the back cover got a fillet on the edges – are now, unwittingly, the designers will run up against comparisons with the Xiaomi Mi6. Well, this is the most direct competitor for the new Honor, a head-on collision with them can not be avoided.
If, however, distract from the design, then perhaps the only difference from Huawei P10, which catches the eye — the missing mention of Leica as a partner in the development of the camera. However, the camera features remained the same: dual module with an RGB sensor at 13 megapixels and monochrome 20. Let’s see how well he shows no (visible) effect Leica. Well, will check other features of the smartphone, of course.

Honor 9 – information about stuffing according to CPU-Z |
Appearance, ergonomics and software
In the previous flagship device of the family, Honor 8, the designers managed to find a style that is his own, unique face for your smartphone – even at the cost of what the case is easily scratched and zaspivala. But now, when phones become almost indistinguishable from each other, especially in middle and low-end segment (the flagship is still highlighted), the advantage of this approach outweigh the disadvantages. It just confirmed the sale of “eight”, and indirectly – that a similar approach was chosen by the Taiwanese HTC for its new U.S. series With the same mirror Shine.

The most spectacular Honor 9, blue |
Honor 9 – the most that neither is a direct heir of his ancestor, and it is manifested in everything. And the front surface and the back cover is covered with glass, which effectively reflects light and perfectly collects fingerprints. Sidewalls made of metal. In fact, a really cool smartphone only looks at pictures on display in the first minutes after decompression; then it is desirable to hide in the cover-bumper, which comes in the package, and relax. But even in this form have the Honor 9 preserves the individuality.

Honor Black 9 |
Three color solutions: blue, gray and black, and the fourth, of gold, yet sold exclusively in China. Perhaps in the future there will be other versions – albeit in limited edition.
Honor 9, the front panel above the screen an earpiece with a built-in the grille status indicator, light sensor and front camera; below the screen – Home key with integrated fingerprint scanner and two touch-sensitive navigation keys with backlight
Honor 9 a little more thicker and heavier than Huawei P10, which is unusual for a “Junior” model. Usually older smartphones, on the contrary, looks solid. Partly this was due to the display – here a diagonal of more than 0.05 inch (not a typo!). Partly because of the arbitrariness of design, technical devices are very similar. For example, the capacity used in these smart phones of the same battery: 3200 mA·h.
Honor 9, rear panel: two of the main camera lens, dual-led flash, laser assistant autofocus
From Honor 8 and its main competitor, Xiaomi Mi6, “nine” is virtually identical in size. It is convenient to use with one hand, she hides in his pocket is in all respects an excellent device. Except for one thing – if you ignore the above remark about the cover-bumper, Honor 9 will be very slippery smartphone and tries to fly out of his hands and to go to the fateful meeting with the floor or pavement. And fall protection at the device, alas, no. Like last time, can boast only a special tube for travelers or smartphones Moto series Force. Also there is the novelty and protection from dust and moisture – it is a little more sad, but also typical for the segment “up to 30 thousand rubles.”
Honor 9, the top face: the infrared sensor and microphone
Honor 9, bottom side: USB Type-C, another microphone, a speaker grille and a mini-Jack
Identical and the layout of the apparatus. Under the screen there is a Home key with integrated fingerprint scanner on either side of it is the touch navigation key (this allows you to save space on relatively small by modern standards, the display). Physical buttons and volume controls, interfaces all in their usual places.
Honor 9, left side: slot for SIM-cards and/or memory card
Honor 9, right side: the power key and volume adjustment
No surprises, as the singing of Thom Yorke, except perhaps the IR port on the top edge someone may surprise you, but it is in the last year returned to practice and was also in Honor 8. The camera unit, by the way, does not protrude above the building, like its predecessor.
The fingerprint scanner placed in the button on the front panel – on the one hand, yay, as in the iPhone. On the other – it’s actually less convenient than it was before. The position of the fingers when pressing on the button located on the rear panel is much more natural than the one in which we need to touch the front keys. The risk of dropping the smartphone increases. However, this is largely a matter of habit.

A capacitive scanner is very fast, but susceptible to microtrauma to the skin of a finger. It can be used to unlock the device, verify payments (there is also NFC, and the ability to use Android Pay), to control the camera, to respond to challenges on and off the clock. He responds not only to a simple touch, but when the user holds their finger on it, – this movement can open the notification panel.

Operating system – Android 7.0 Nougat, covered with a shell EMUI 5.1. No features shell in “technical” terms here. The feature of Honor – large software integration of the devices in the environment. In particular, the Russian Honor 9 “out of the box” received search “Yandex” (along with Google), the application of Sberbank and navigation 2GIS. For what it’s worth, decide for yourself.
By itself, the shell works very fast and does not cause irritation – Huawei after not too successful start with your EMUI gradually got used and makes a wonderful software environment.
