Design, ergonomics and software
Pleased to note that despite the strong visual distinction between different generations Zenfone, ASUS has developed an own style, device and recognizable without a logo on the front panel. Max Zenfone 4 smartphone naturally large, after all, a 5.5-inch display requires. To use it with one hand at first can be difficult, especially after some four-inch device, but for a couple of days it is possible to get used to. But for those who the transition will not be given, in the settings there is a special one-handed mode. But more on that later.
The smartphone is available only in three colors: pink, gold and dark blue. Latest in dim lighting can be mistaken for black, this remains the most practical, and obviously will be sold to other active. Design can be described as very quiet – case shape maximum traditional, the side faces are gently rounded. Have to give credit to ASUS: despite the large size, the body Zenfone 4 Max remains quite thin – only 8.9 mm.
The front side of the case is completely covered with tempered glass, the edges and rear panel is made of anodized aluminum. Only top and bottom rear there is a plastic insert that is painted in body color. They are necessary for the normal operation of built-in antennas and wireless modules.
On the bottom face of the housing located grid system speaker and microphone, and microUSB port – this serves as a reminder that the low-cost model. Top smartphones and devices of the middle class almost to a man use USB Type-C On the top face Zenfone 4 Max is a 3.5-millimeter headset Jack.
On the right there is a power button and two keys for volume adjustment. And on the left is the tray for two SIM-cards and microSD. The slot for the second SIM card separate, which means you don’t have to choose between the extended memory and using the second carrier card. It is a pity that the producers of the most expensive smartphones ignore a similar approach.
In Zenfone 4 Max alive the spirit of the old school – on the front side, under the screen there are three hardware buttons (two touch). Smartphone have lost nothing without them – Android long allows you to duplicate these items on the screen, but in this case, “eaten” part of the usable area of the display.
In the Central button is integrated fingerprint sensor, which traditionally can be used to unlock the smartphone without entering the password. Sensor works surprisingly quickly, which did not have to expect from a budget model. The Central button responds to the touch of light vibration, and a double tap can be assigned additional functions. For example, a one-handed mode, in which the active area of the screen decreases and is shifted to the left or right. Free space is black is not really beautiful, but convenience increases, especially in the transition from a small smartphone.
Zenfone 4 Max out of the box comes with the seventh version of Android, but soon will appear and the update to Android 8.0 Oreo. Installed on top of a proprietary shell ZenUI 4.0, fast and convenient.
Especially well done menus for quick access to applications presents many features of versions to choose from it is rarely necessary. The system works quickly, switching between programs is quite rapid, without thorough testing, and not to say that in front of you smartphone on a budget platform.
