Overview of ultrabook-transformer Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro Intel Core M
The Intel Core M was announced almost a year ago at Computex in June last year. They are based on the architecture Broadwell new process technology 14 nm. Their main purpose is to tablets and ultraportable laptops.
Due to the advanced design rules, the new processors turned out to be about 50% less than their counterparts nizkovorsnye of the family Haswell. The heating package Core M is 4.5 W (expandable to 6 watts depending on the model), so when designing systems in most cases you can do without active cooling – as did, for example, the developers of the new MacBook.
The nominal clock frequency of processors Core M range from 800 to 1200 MHz, but in Turbo mode they can grow to 2 900 MHz (only for models with Intel Core M-5Y71). Support Hyper Threading available to all Core M. Integrated graphics in all CPUs are the same – Intel HD Graphics 5300, inside it is the 24 execution units, and the maximum frequency of graphics core is 900 MHz.
In compact, the Intel Core M with heating package 4.5 W (in rare cases – 6W) the developers were able to fit two computing cores operating with a clock frequency up to 2.9 GHz, support Hyper Threading, and even embedded images. Appearance this combination looks very appetizing – no wonder Apple has relied on these CPU, setting them in the new “MacBook”. Today, however, we will not consider Mac and ultrabook with Windows – Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro.
New “Yoga” has remained faithful to the traditions of the series: laptop cover made (as well as the bottom) of aluminum, still can open almost 360 degrees, turning the laptop into a Windows tablet.
In the updated “Yoga”, a new loop, visually similar to a metal watch bracelets. According to the manufacturer, these loops collected from 885 parts helped reduce the weight of the laptop on 200 grams, and the thickness is 3 mm.
This design of the hinge looks great, but she, unfortunately, there were a couple downsides. First, the wide parts of the loops, between which there are gaps, the whole thing can rattle. Second, the new loop does not completely cover the ribbon cable that connects the screen to the motherboard, it is possible to notice, if you put the laptop in tablet mode. The slot, in which is seen a plume is very thin so damage can be very sharp and thin object. You have to try very hard, but still the probability is not zero. All the rest of Yoga remains the same as was from the beginning, one of the best laptops-transformers.
The maximum thickness of the laptop is 15 mm, of which the screen is about 5 mm. Weighs Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro a bit – 1.19 kg, which is very good for the 13-inch laptop.
Workspace Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro is made of soft plastic with an ornament in the form of tiny dots-pits. To touch such a workspace is very nice but the cleaning can cause problems. At the time of writing the review, it was found that dirt accumulates on the surface very quickly, and dust, which — according to Murphy’s law — always get into these tiny grooves is very difficult to pull out.
Due to the small thickness of the new “Yoga” move keyboard buttons turned out a little less than most laptops, but for a long time to get used to it don’t have to. However, there is a bigger problem: some function keys combined with the digital, like the Acer Aspire S7. Unfortunately, getting used to this layout too, will take time.
The keyboard has a new “Yoga” has a white backlight. Its color, and the brightness level cannot be changed.
Size touchpad the Yoga 3 Pro was quite usual for “tryneski” – 90 × 60 mm. Working with him was comfortable, no problems with gestures or hidden under the surface of the touch keys did not arise.
On the left side of laptop are two USB versions 2.0 and 3.0, Micro-HDMI and a reader for the memory cards. USB 2.0 port (it is made of yellow plastic), combined with a power connector, so it will be unavailable while charging laptop. On the right side of the laptop there is a second USB 3.0 port, a 3.5 mm headset connector, and the main control keys, which can be found on each tablet.
On the bottom of the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro is just the usual stickers and slits for the speakers and ventilation holes here.
According to our description, you can decide that the cooling system is the new “Yoga” turned out to be passive: this circumstance hints and processor teplopaket 4.5 W, and the lack of vents on the notebook. However, this is not so: the Yoga 3 Pro has an active cooling system, which consists of a tiny impeller, copper heat pipes and a small radiator. The vents of the laptop hidden at the rear edge of the loops. To see them only when the laptop is in tablet mode.

As we have already mentioned, in ultrabook equipped with a processor Intel Core M-5Y70, made on 14-nm process technology. Its clock frequency is 1.1 GHz, and mode Turbo Boost it can increase to 2.6 GHz. The volume of L3 cache is 4 MB and the TDP is only 4.5 watts.
All RAM Yoga 3 Pro is soldered on the Board and replace it yourself impossible. The laptop has 8 GB DDR3L-1600 working only in dual channel mode. This amount of memory should be enough for most tasks.
Built-in CPU GPU Intel HD Graphics 5300 has 24 execution units, the maximum graphics frequency is 850 MHz.
About the dimensions of the Yoga 3 Pro we have already mentioned, they were more than modest, so the inside has only one SSD format M. 2 256 GB SAMSUNG MZNTE256HMHP. For wireless connection meets the Broadcomm BCM4352 adapter that supports the 2.4 and 5 GHz (802.11 a/b/g/n and even ac). It also supports Bluetooth Protocol.
The capacity of a battery consisting of four cells, is 44 WH (5900 mAh, 7,6 In). The power Yoga 3 Pro — 40 W (20 V, 2 A), with respect to the teplopaket processor seems even superfluous.
At this point it would be possible to finish the description of the technical specifications of the laptop and go to the story about his price, if not one important circumstance. The PSU Yoga 3 Pro there’s only one, the most common USB connector to which the cable is connected. This means that all new “Yoga” can be used to charge the hero of our article, and for supply of tablets or other gadgets – in this mode, the maximum output voltage of the unit is limited to 5.2 V instead of the 20 required for charging the “Yoga”.
At the time of this writing, the simple, initial modification of the new Yoga 3 Pro is about 90 000. In this modification will be installed the processor Intel Core M-5Y70, 8 GB RAM, SSD 256 GB and a touch screen with a resolution of 3200 × 1800 pixels. A more advanced modification of the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro will cost about 100 000 rubles, and from the initial modification, it will differ only SSD, whose capacity will increase to 512 GB.
The internal structure
The bottom of the laptop is attached with 10 screws and is removable without any problems. After dismantling can be clearly seen that most of the internal space of “Yoga” is the battery.
The motherboard in the Yoga 3 Pro is very compact – it is located in the upper part of the ultrabook. In the right corner of the motherboard is the SSD and wireless module.
The CPU and RAM is located in the Central part of the Board, and the cooling system of CPU is in the upper left corner.
It consists of copper heat pipes and tiny SUNON fan EG40040S1-C010-S9A. To find in the Internet the fan was not possible, so the maximum number of turns, and the generated air flow, remains unknown.
